Why Vinolok™
Like many winemakers at the end of the 90’s, the Brezza family experienced the inconsistencies in taste and evolution of their wines caused by natural closures. The frustration of seeing their hard work ruined and customers disappointed by unstable wine development led them to look for something innovative that would be reliable and stable. And the Vinolok™ closure, with its taste neutrality and technical perfection, proved to be just what they were looking for.
About
The Brezza family has owned and run the winery and vineyards since 1885. The estate takes its name from Giacomo Brezza who, with his father Antonio, produced the first bottle in 1910. Proprietors of tradition for 5 generations, they believe that the best way to express the uniqueness of the terroir in their wines is to be in constant harmony with the land and its fruits. At present, the family’s vineyards are organically farmed. Their philosophy is to produce monovarietal wines, and to pay more attention to the health of the vineyard.
Beginning
In 2005, there was an event for the winemakers in Rheingau. And it was the first time the Brezza family saw the glass closures. They immediately recognized the potential of the innovation, and were interested in how it works, what the process of bottling is like, and what the glass closure does to a wine. They visited the Schloss Vollrads bottling line to see the process, and then decided to try the closure on 5,000 bottles to find out with which variety and type of wine it works best for them.
Experience
After testing the closure to select the varieties that would benefit from being sealed with Vinolok™, Enzo knew it was the right direction for the winery. Switching to Vinolok™ was easy, and once the decision was made, they opted for the semiautomatic bottling process, which doesn’t require any special equipment. Customers liked the glass closure right from the start. Surprisingly, the first positive feedback came from their export customers, who quickly adopted the glass closure. And the domestic market soon followed. Enzo Brezza confirms that export markets are increasingly demanding technically perfect and reliable closures, for which Vinolok™ is the perfect solution, as it is also accepted in traditional markets.
