J. B. Becker Weinbau
Using Vinolok™ since
2003
Winemaking
After a few hours of maceration, the Riesling is gently pressed and fermented spontaneously. The Rieslings are stored for up to 10 months on the full lees, thereby clarifying themselves, and are bottled after only one filtration. The Pinot Noirs are fermented using the pressure swing method, and are stored for up to two years in large wooden barrels, before being bottled without filtration.
Why Vinolok™
It was love at first sight, and Hans-Josef Becker was happy to have finally found a closure that was absolutely neutral in flavour, of high quality, and suitable for long-term storage.
About
Founded in 1893 by Jean Baptiste Becker, J.B. Becker is a renowned winery in the Rheingau region of Germany. Today, it is run by grandson Hans-Josef Becker, and his sister Maria. The siblings are true individualists, and regard their vineyards as a “loan from nature”. They are characterised by their commitment to organic cultivation and spontaneous yeast fermentation.
Beginning
J.B. Becker was the first winery to bottle with Vinolok™, namely the 2003 vintage. The vineyard is cultivated in harmony with nature (EU organic certified). “The wine helps itself.” is Hans-Josef Becker’s motto, and shows his absolute trust in nature.
Experience
Vinolok™ closures, with their neutrality of flavour and aroma, protect wines from unexpected influences. Glass has the best technical properties for long-term storage, which reinforced decision. The first bottled vintages, over 20 years old, present themselves full of character with freshness and elegance, and show that Becker´s choice was the right one.
